Free Yoga Camps

Introduction
Free yoga camps were organized jointly by Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy under Ministry of AYUSH, Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action (CISSA) and Federation of Residents Associations Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT). The classes commenced on 21st May 2015 at the following centres.

Inauguration
21 May 2015
The inauguration of morning classes at Maruthankuzhy centre on 21st May was done by former Ayurveda Medical Education Director Dr.P.Sankarankutty. He emphasized the importance of yoga programmes among Keralities due to increasing life style diseases among the people in recent times. Democratisation of yoga among the people has become a very important tool to overcome the present crisis. Dr.C.Suresh Kumar, General Secretary, CISSA, Shri.P.Maruthankuzhy Satheesh Kumar, General Secretary, FRAT, Shri.Venganoor Satheesh, President, Maruthankuzhy Residents Association and Dr.Vasundara spoke on the occasion.
The evening yoga classes at the PTP Nagar centre was inaugurated by the State Programme Officer of Health Services Dr.Anita Mohan. The function was presided over by Smt.Anna Job, President of the Women’s Wing of PTP Residents Association. Dr.T.G.Vinod Kumar, Secretary, PTP Residents Association, Dr.C.Suresh kumar, General Secretary, CISSA and Dr.A.Bijukumar, Secretary, CISSA also spoke on the occasion.
Yoga Classes
Yoga training classes were conducted at all the centres as per the guidelines of CCRYN. Since there were more requests from the public for participation in the classes, additional members were admitted to different centres making the total number of participants to 125.

International Yoga Day Celebration 2015
The Hon’ble member of Kerala Legislative Assembly Shri.K.Muraleedharan was invited to be the chief guest of the day. A demonstration of important asanas as per the guidelines of CCRYN was done by the participants of the training programme organized on 21 June from 7.00 am – 7.45 am at Kesavapuram Sreekrishna Swamy Temple Hall, Maruthankuzhy, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. About Sixty participants attended and the demonstration was led by Dr. Divya and Dr. Shan.
This was followed by a meeting which was presided over by Maruthankuzhy Residents Association President Sri. Venganoor Prasad. Adv. Punchakkary Raveendran Nair (Patron, FRAT) delivered the inaugural address who emphasized the importance of practicing yoga in the present day fast life style being adopted by people. On the occasion, the following dignitaries spoke about yoga and its relevance in modern life – Maruthankuzhy P Satheesh Kumar (General Secretary, FRAT), Dr.P.Sankarankutty (Former Director of Ayurveda Medical Education), Dr.P.G.Rajendran (Director, Projects, CISSA), Dr.C.K.Peethambaran (Former Director of Research, Kerala Agricultural University), Dr.S.Venu (Programme co-ordinator), Shri.N.Sreekumar (CISSA), Shri. Venganoor Prasad (President, Maruthankuzhy Residents Association), Shri.A.Gopakumar(FRAT Legal cell convener). Er.VC Vijayakumar (VSSC) proposed the vote of thanks.
A Yoga Medical Camp
In connection with the International Yoga Day Celebration, CISSA in association with CCRYN and FRAT has organized a Free Yoga therapy Medical Camp for Diabetes & Hypertension – a camp without medicine was held at Maruthankuzhy Residents Association Hall on 21 June 2015. This has become a great source of attraction among the people and many people attended the yoga medical camp. The main focus was how to control the major health problems such as hyper tension, diabetes, arthritis and stress. The asanas practiced in the yoga camp were a boon to the participants.
