Dr. Vandana Shiva formally announces ANNAM 2015
Thiruvananthapuram: Come December, Kochi will witness a unique ANNAM 2015 National Festival of food and agro biodiversity. Third in the series, with its previous episodes successfully conducted in Thiruvananthapuram (2008) and Kozhikode (2008), the forthcoming event will be a get together of practitioners and fans of organic farming, good and ethnic food. Quite appropriately, the event was formally announced before a gathering of media representatives by acclaimed speaker, author and activist, Dr. Vandana Shiva, here on 01 November. “The festival is conducted on a crucial juncture when our country has witnessed altogether 300000 farmer suicides. If it is in cotton sector in Maharashtra, it is spice farmers for Wayanad in Kerala”, Dr. Vandana Shiva said. “When television masterminds, our children are falling lured by the wrong commercials. Junk food is spreading fast”, she added. To a question by a journalist as to what would be the use of a festival to fight junk and fake food, Dr. Vandana Shiva made it a point that if it’s regarding food the best way is to teach through mouth by tasting, and eyes by showing. The press conference was attended by Dr. G.G. Gangadharan, President, CISSA; Dr. C. Suresh Kumar, General Secretary; Shri. Ajith Venniyur, Vice President; and Shri. K.G. Venugopal, Secretary General, Annam 2015 organizing committee.
