Kozhikode (15 November 2015): Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF 2016) to be held in the city from 29th January to 2nd February 2016 would be a major step forward to sustain the prestige of Indian Ayurveda, from not getting our medicinal traditions sidelined in the ongoing surge of modernity, said Minister for Local Self Governance, Dr. M.K. Muneer. The minister was speaking yesterday (Sunday, 15th November) after inaugurating the office for the organizing and reception committees of the GAF 2016 at 1st floor, Dream World Complex, Bypass Road. Dr. Muneer wished success for the festival that is also meant for providing the much needed encouragement for the State’s Ayurveda lineage.
Speaking on the occasion, A. Pradeep Kumar MLA gave the assurance that enough land would be obtained for establishing a Medicinal Plant Garden at Sarovaram Park as part of the GAF 2016. Member of Parliament, M.K. Raghavan said that he would lead an effort to incept national institute for Ayurveda in the district, following the event next year.
A host of dignitaries from different walks of life including political and cultural leaders, litterateurs and renowned Ayurveda physicians from all over the State were present on the occasion. Press Club president, Kamal Varadur, Dr. V.G. Udayakumar, Dr. Venugopal and Adv. Rajan spoke on the occasion.
Noted Ayurveda exponent and President of Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), the NGO that chiefly organizes GAF 2016, Dr. G.G. Gangadharan presided over the function. Secretary of CISSA and Chief Coordinator of the event, Dr. C. Suresh Kumar proposed vote of thanks.
