Lightning awareness programme in schools

 A mass awareness programme on lightning hazards and protection will be conducted by the Lightning Awareness and Research Centre (LARC) and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The programme will cover 700 schools in the State. It seeks to take the message to 7,00,000 households through schoolchildren. As many as 50 teachers and 150 students from each district will be educated during the programme. The workshop will educate the participants on basic lightning science and protection measures that can be adopted by people to safeguard against lightning accidents. Minister for Social Justice M.K. Muneer will inaugurate a workshop at the Government Arts and Science College, Meenchanda, Kozhikode, on June 20. Kamalakshan Kokkal, Joint Director, KSCSTE, will address the gathering. The second session will be conducted in Wayanad, one of the most lighting-prone districts in the State. LARC, lightning awareness division under the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action, provides free telephonic consultation on lightning-related matters to the public.
