Low Carbon Campus Programme is one of the initiatives of CISSA to promote the concept of Low carbon life style by minimising carbon emission in the environment and by sequestering carbon by trees. CISSA has already conducted low carbon studies in different institutions in Kerala. Based on the studies the institutions have been categorised into carbon negative, carbon neutral and carbon positive. Thus this initiative aims to achieve 13th goal of Sustainable Development Goal namely Climate action.
Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) with the support of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Govt. of Kerala has conducted a detailed study for implementing Low Carbon School Campus Programme in HSS for Girls Venganoor, Thiruvananthapuram.
This project aims to assist schools to reduce their carbon footprint and educate the students-tomorrow’s leaders about strategies for climate change mitigation using their schools as a model.
Er.Suresh Babu BV, Director, Energy & Clean Technologies Division, CISSA presented the results of the project to the staff, students and parents of the school.
Shri.Vincent, Hon’ble MLA inaugurated the programme on 12th July 2019 at HSS for Girls Venganoor, Thiruvananthapuram. The increasing level of carbon dioxide should be reduced by not burning garbage, by using solar energy, reducing the electricity consumption and by planting more number of trees – he said.
Carbon rating certificate of HSS for Girls Venganoor is handed over to the School by the Hon’ble MLA.
