As you may be aware, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on the 73rd Independence Day of India, appealed to the people to make the country free from single-use plastics (SUPs).
This dream project to scrap single use plastics by 2022, envisages to launch the campaign with a ban on six items on 2nd October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
In order to make the people aware of the nature, extent and threats of SUPs, we need targeted campaigns and social engineering tools to make people aware of the concerns and alternatives to plastics.
In this background, CISSA (Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action) along with a host of like-minded organisations and institutions, is organising a Multi Event Campaign for Plastic Free India at Manaveeyam Veedhi, Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram on 2nd October 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm. The campaign will be continued upto March 2020 and propose to cover all the districts of the state, culminating in a National Level Industry Expo and Business Meet on alternatives to plastics.
The event on 2nd October 2019 mainly consists of student and youth assembly. As part of the programme, painting competition, Poster designing competition, Skit, Mime, Environmental songs, Recitation, Street plays, Poster Exhibition, Photo Exhibition and Exhibition of Alternatives to plastic are also arranged.
