National Banana Festival (NBF-2018) is being organized during 17-21 February 2018 in Thiruvananthapuram by Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action (CISSA). Collaborators of this mega event are Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat, Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) acknowledged by United Nations University; ICAR- National Centre for Banana, Tiruchirapalli; UNESCO New Delhi, Central and State Government institutions involved in Banana Research & Promotion and NGOs working in this sector.

The sprawling ground in Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat, adjacent to the world famous Kovalam beach is the venue. This intensive farming region predominantly cultivating diversified varieties of banana is the home to College of Agriculture under Kerala Agricultural University, and is adopted by Hon’ble M.P. Shri. Suresh Gopi under the Prime Minister’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).

The National Banana Festival aims to showcase wide diversity of bananas in India and multifarious uses of this unique fruit. Further it focuses the need to intensify research in banana production, processing, value addition and marketing.

Conserving diversity, preserving identity, promoting value addition is the focal theme of the national seminar with other 15 subthemes. National exhibition, training programmes, farmers meet, buyer seller meet, documentary shows, photography contest, competitions, cultural programmes etc are the other attractions in this conclave.

This festival will be a conglomeration of scientists, conservationists, agriculturists, policy makers, food experts, nutritionists, environmentalists, social workers and farmers, and will be a platform to exhibit everything about banana, share ideas and to support the farmers and entrepreneurs.
