Seminar on Technological updates on Lightning and Electrical Safety for Buildings

Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA)  in collaboration with LBS Institute of Technology for Women was organised a seminar on Technological updates on Lightning and Electrical Safety for Buildings to celebrate the National Technology Day  on 10th May  2017  at LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram. The programme was sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

 

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.R. Harikumar, Director, ANERT.  In his inaugural speech he emphasised the importance of electrical safety and use of non conventional energy and how to mitigate the lightning damage using appropriate correction steps.

The keynote address was delivered by Shri.Vijayakumar N.P, Electrical Inspector, Office of the Chief Electrical Inspectorate. He explained the importance of technology day and the necessity for conducting this programme among the younger generation. He stressed the need to conserve electricity and the ways and means of doing the same. He also explained the different modern techniques available to prevent lightning strikes in buildings.

The necessity of energy conservation and simple methods to adopt it were discussed by  Shri. Rajagopalachari, Consultant, Energy Management Centre, Kerala. He also explained the need to regularly update the equipments used for electrical safety.

Shri. Aswin, Director, New Destinare, in his lecture elaborated on the technology and equipments for lightning & electrical safety of buildings. He also explained on the different international standards for lightning protection and equipments used for different types of buildings for  safeguard.

 

During the programme, a documentary film on lightning protection was produced by CISSA was also screened. The seminar was attended by 120 students and teachers of LBS institute and teachers from different schools in Thiruvananthapuram.

Er.B.V Suresh Babu, Ottotractions welcomed the audience and Shri.K.K.Sathyan proposed vote of thanks.
