Need for literacy on energy conservation

Thiruvananthapuram: District panchayat president, V.K. Madhu said that wasting and lavishing of energy was predominantly seen among Malayalis who were driven by the surging consumer culture. In order to stop this trend, needed was literacy on energy conservation, he added. He was speaking after inaugurating Urja Kiran, an energy conservation awareness programme organized with the support of Energy Management Centre, Kerala (EMC) by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) and Karakulam Grama Panchayat today (Sunday) at Karakulam Service Cooperative Bank auditorium. Global forces are on a rush behind energy sources. It was their fear about draining away of their own fossil energy sources by 2025 that has prompted America to interfere in Iraq and Syria. In our own country, it was ironical that the corporate control the oil prices whereas the government simply remained with closed eyes, instead of coming to the rescue of the common man.  In this context, it was necessary for everyone to learn techniques to reduce their energy bills at homes through prudent conservation mechanism, Mr. Madhu added.

 

The function was chaired by Block Panchayat President, B. Biju. Programme Director of Centre for Environment and Development, Dr. T. Sabu offered keynote speech. Classes were handled by Senior consultant of EMC, Rajagopalachari and Assistant executive engineer, Sudhakumari.

 

President, Karakulam grama pancyat, Anila; Karakulam service cooperative bank president, S.S. Rajalal spoke. President of Jaiva Haritha Sangham, C.S. Balakrishnan welcomed participants and Publication Head of CISSA, Sivakumar K.P. proposed vote of thanks.
