Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) in association with RCE Thiruvananthapuram acknowledged by United Nations University is proposed to organise 8 day National Webinar on “Plant Taxonomy: Description to Digital Experiment” from 5 to 9 and 12 to 14 of October 2020. The programme is designed to give training and basic understanding on the principles and practices of plant taxonomy to the students, research scholars and teachers. This programme will come under the SDG 04 for developing quality human resource through education.

As you are aware, International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) is on 22nd May 2020 and this time the major theme of IDB is “SOLUTIONS ARE IN NATURE”, which is relevant in a world crippled with COVID-19 pandemics.

International Biodiversity Congress (IBC) is organising a webinar on 22nd May 2020 (from 7 to 9 pm Indian Time) on the theme topic “POST-COVID ERA: MAINSTREAMING BIODIVERSITY AND NATURE IN DEVELOPMENT AGENDA”.

The main speakers/panellists in the webinar include Dr Vandana Shiva (Founder, Navdanya), Dr VB Mathur (Chairperson, NBA), Dr Balakrishna Pisupati (Chairperson, FLEDGE), Sri SM Vijayanand IAS (retd), former Chief Secretary, Kerala), Sri Bittu Saghal (Founder Editor, Sanctuary Asia), Sri Ashish Kothari (Kalpavriksh), Dr Deepak Apte (Director, BNHS), Dr GG Gangadharan (Director, RISA, Bangalore) and Smt. The student innovation forum is intended to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions to tackle SUP menace in India. Proof of concepts/prototypes and Minimum viable products(MVP) can be submitted.

Entries can be made by individuals or by a team (team of maximum 3 students).The individual/team may send an abstract (500 words) along with illustrations/photographs. A preliminary screening will be done by the selection committee. Opportunity will be provided to the selected entries for display/presentation during the event. The Best entries will be selected by a Jury.

Call for Papers

Papers can be submitted for all the themes. The presenters can opt for oral or poster presentations. However, the review committee will decide the mode and theme of presentation.

The abstract(s) should be submitted for both forms of presentations.

Submission of HARD COPY is NOT allowed.

Best Paper award will be presented for each theme.

Registration of one of the authors is mandatory for acceptance of abstract.

Last date for submission of abstracts: 10 February 2020

Abstract

The abstract(s) should not have more than 500 words and should be uploaded through the website http://cissa.co.in on or before 10th February 2020. The following information may kindly be noted while preparing the abstract:

  • The title of the paper centered with bold capital letters (14 font Times New Roman).
  • Name of the author(s) centered in normal letters (12 font Times New Roman).
  • Address (es) of the author(s) with pin code, phone and fax numbers and e mail. The name of the corresponding and presenting authors should be specifically mentioned (12 font Times New Roman- normal).
  • A 500 word abstract must contain precise information including brief introduction, methodology, highlights of results and conclusion (12 font Times New Roman- normal, justified).
  • At least one author should register by paying the required registration fee.

Poster presentation

Posters must be in portrait, DIN A0 format (84 cm wide x 119 cm high).

Include the title and authors of the poster as listed in your abstract.

Information on the poster should flow from left to right and from top to bottom.

Keep your poster simple – avoid too much information, stick to two or three main points.

Double space all text, using left justification.

Use short sentences, simple words and bullets.

All information should be large enough to be read easily from at least one metre distance, suggested text size is at least 24 point; author(s) and affiliation(s) should be at least 42 point; subheadings should be at least 60 point.

Self-explanatory graphics should dominate the poster; keep captions brief.

Multi Event Campaign for Plastic Free India -2nd October 2019, Thiruvananthapuram

As you may be aware, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on the 73rd Independence Day of India, appealed to the people to make the country free from single-use plastics (SUPs).

This dream project to scrap single use plastics by 2022, envisages to launch the campaign with a ban on six items on 2nd October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

In order to make the people aware of the nature, extent and threats of SUPs, we need targeted campaigns and social engineering tools to make people aware of the concerns and alternatives to plastics.

In this background, CISSA (Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action) along with a host of like-minded organisations and institutions,  is organising a Multi Event Campaign for Plastic Free India at Manaveeyam Veedhi, Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram on 2nd October 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm. The campaign will be continued upto March 2020 and propose to cover all the districts of the state, culminating in a National Level Industry Expo and Business Meet on alternatives to plastics.

The event on 2nd October 2019 mainly consists of student and youth assembly. As part of the programme, painting competition, Poster designing competition, Skit, Mime, Environmental songs, Recitation, Street plays, Poster Exhibition, Photo Exhibition and Exhibition of Alternatives to plastic are also arranged.

Ananthapuri Jackfruit festival and Food fiesta, a week-long festival of jackfruit tastes will be held from 14-20 August 2019 at EK Nayanar Park (Putharikandam Maidan). The event is organized by CISSA in association with Metro Mart. A brochure speaking on the attractions in stock with the impending event was formally released by the minister for food and civil supplies, Shri. P. Thilothaman.
