The Fourth Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC 2017) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry, Shri. V. Narayansamyat J. N. auditorium, Pondicherry Central University today the 10th of March 2017. The programme was organized by Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), Thiruvananthapuram, in association with Pondicherry Central University, Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Puducherry, Navdanya, New Delhi, Pondicherry Science Forum, Puducherry and various Governmental and Non Governmentalorganisations.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry, Shri. V. Narayansamy, during his speech, emphasised upon his concern for the deteriorating ecological and environmental conditions and extend his support for tackling these issues. Hon’ble Minister of Revenue, Information Technology, Forest of Puducherry, Shri. M. O. H. F. Shahjahan was the guest of honor. In his felicitation address, he also stress upon the need to make Puducherry clean and green and his ever willingness to extend support in this effort. The Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Professor Anisa Basheer Khan, presided the occasion with her presence and delivered the presidential address as well as released the book of abstracts of IBC 2017. Dr. G. G. Gangadharan, President CISSA, on behalf of the organizers, extend a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and participants who have come to take part in the Congress. The Secretary General, IBC 2017, Dr. P. N. Krishnan, elaborated the scope of the Congress. Lastly the inaugural function came to an end with a vote of thanks from Dr. S. Jayakumar, Organizing Secretary, IBC 2017.
The inaugural plenary session immediately followed the inauguration was chaired by Prof. M.K.Prasad and the main speech was delivered by Dr.P.S.Roy. The 03 scientific sessions began in the afternoon with plenarytalks.Both oral and poster presentations were exemplary with good participation, concluding the sessions at 7pm the delegates were enthralled with cultural programmes by the university department.
