Estimation of Carbon Footprint in School Campuses and Creation of Low Carbon School Campus Plans for Individual Schools in Thiruvananthapuram District-
Workshop for teachers and students :-
Shri.M.Vincent, Hon’ble MLA inaugurated workshop for teachers and students in connection with the project for Creation of Low Carbon School Campus in Thiruvananthapuram District at HSS Girls Venganoor on 10th Aug 2018. He stressed the need to mitigate carbon emission by planting more trees in the campus. The havocs we human beings are wreaking to the environment due to the continued emission of carbon dioxide by indulging in various methods such as burning of plastics, deforestation, wastage of food etc. He also emphasized the need for the usage of public transport frequently.
This project is implemented by Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action (CISSA) with the support of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).
Dr.Kamalakshan Kokkal, Senior Principal Scientist, KSCSTE said that Climate change due to human activities is one of the most serious problems facing the world in the 21st century. There should be no doubt over the science – the continued release ofgreenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial and agricultural processes will lead to severe and potentially catastrophic changes in the earth’sclimate, some of which will be irreversible.
